I have done it before long ago, but we just read the chapter in Little House in the Big Woods where Laura helps Ma make butter, and I have been meaning to do butter-making SOON before it fades from the kids' memory.Jennifer in MamaLandhttp://ronypony.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7552899679204207901.post-91776729414308603182010-02-18T00:05:33.893-05:002010-02-18T00:05:33.893-05:00Sadly, not a new thing at all... שs long as there ...Sadly, not a new thing at all... שs long as there have been Christians, there have been Christians trying to convince us that Jesus is the fulfillment of Judaism and Jewish law.
In my experience, many (if not most) of these "messianic Jews" are actually Christians seeking to add depth to their Christian life by celebrating what they call "Biblical feasts" and other observances.
While it is inauthentic, those (in my opinion) are the benign type of messianic Jews - the ones who aren't as much trying to change me as to improve themselves and their kids' education. Theoretically.
While my distaste for "messianic Judaism" (which I've heard called "Hebrew Christianity" as an attempt to show that it's not actually a form or movement of Judaism) has not diminished over the almost-30 years since I first learned about it (boy am I old!), I have begun to differentiate between the active-proselytization type and the sincere-Christian-seeking-knowledge type.
Hope this helps!
For more information, try JewsForJudaism.org . They have been very helpful to me in understanding these issues.Jennifer in MamaLandhttp://ronypony.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7552899679204207901.post-46700116986157685422010-01-08T00:21:21.660-05:002010-01-08T00:21:21.660-05:00We intended to get a friend for my daughter's ...We intended to get a friend for my daughter's gerbil but they only had 1 gerbil left and it was a girl. She has a boy and we didn't want any babies so that was a big fat NO! We did eventually get a new gerbil for her and her two little boys are very happy together. I knew there was a chance of someday being the mother-in-law to a rodent, but never grandmother to rodents! As the parents, we were grateful to just add 2 cats to our others, rather than starting a whole new pet scenario to the home. I think you made a wise choice! ; )Pieletnoreply@blogger.com
